KING OF THE MOUNTAIN

“Social media platforms have taken over the news.

They treat a lie the same way you would treat a fact.” Maria Ressa.

Media makes billions of dollars by inventing a hero or a villain. They exaggerate an incident until it becomes a “news” story barely resembling the Truth. In this story, a hero, created and destroyed by a single source, is quite simply murdered by Media.

When Rainbow Maddocks murders a couple in a North Carolina forest, Sheriff Buddy Roland uses tracking methods taught him by his Native American grandfather. Environmentalists and nonviolent militia groups are outraged that any man, regardless of the crime, should be hunted down like an animal. A wall of protection goes up around him that piques Media interest. Reporters flood Roland’s small village as songs written about the man deeply shrouded in mystery hit the charts. The story dominates world attention as the roles of the men are oddly reversed by news sources. Maddocks becomes the hero, Sheriff Roland the villain. Jeff Evans’ brilliant performance is enhanced by original songs composed and performed by Erudessa Gentian and a stirring score by provided by David Fesliyan (www.fesliyanstudios.com). Esther Luttrell wrote and directed.  Patrick McGranahan co-produced. From MBP’s Saratoga Playhouse.
